it’s like he brought it up specifically so he could cash in on this harmful stereotype about lesbians and about gay people in general (that we can be “fixed” if we just find the right different-sex partner)

when ian fleming did this in goldfinger (with pussy galore) he at least had the excuse of it being the 50s

there is no excuse for this

and it’s fucking embarrassing on top of the simple heterosexism just as an adaptation issue — because the sherlock holmes stories were about a gay dude (i mean this point is debatable obviously but there’s a lot of scholarship i think is pretty solid), which is why, many doyle scholars have argued, he wasn’t sexually interested in irene adler. so it’s almost like moffat tried to sidestep the sherlock-is-a-gay-protagonist issue by making irene gay instead, except then he missed the whole dynamic of the relationship in the first place, which is.. one of them is gay, so they’re not interested in each other except as rivals

i never thought there was a way to make me more annoyed by an irene adler adaptation than just making her a standard love interest, but wow did moffat find a higher level of pissing me way the fuck off
